In the latest annual meeting of the International Bar Association (IBA), held late September in Washington D.C., Jaime Carey, partner at Carey, was elected as the new Chair of the Legal Practice Division (LPD) of the IBA. The LPD is the biggest division within said organization. It comprises over 50 committees of the various areas of practice, such as Corporate Law, Tax Law, Banking Law, Labor Law, Capital Markets Law, and others, plus seven regional fora.
The IBA is the main professional organization of the legal area and lawyer associations worldwide. It boasts 80,000 member lawyers, and 190 bar associations and law societies from nearly 160 countries. This is the first time that a Chilean lawyer holds a post of this relevance within the IBA. The appointment commences on January 1st, 2017, and is effective until December 31st, 2018.
